Basketball Player Balloon Sculpture

Watching some TV the other night and surfed past an old NBA game from the 1980′s.   Since I usually think in terms of balloons for just about everything, the basketball player looked like a great subject for a balloon sculpture.

The pictures in this post are of the basketball player I whipped up after watching some of the old game.   A few of the highlights include; no need to do any hair for these NBA guys, since most of them shave their heads.   At least enough of them shave their heads so you can twist them as baldies.   The head is just the usual four or five bubble twist with small ears.   Give him the normal round nose and a little red tongue sticking out and the head and face are done.

The torso is the jersey which you can do according to your favorite team colors.   I just painted a number on the jersey of my basketball player, but you could paint a team logo if you wanted and if you’re a good artist.   Give him a belt from a 160Q and his top is done.   I twisted a white bubble on each side because that’s the way most of the pro jersey’s are made.

For the rear end and legs I used the same colors including the white stripe on the side.   To make the lower part smaller I only used two purple bubbles instead of four on the torso.    Two 160Q bubbles wrapped around each leg at the bottom of the shorts make it look more realistic.   Since these players now days wear the long shorts, the knees should be twisted right after the shorts.

The gym shoes can add a lot to the sculpture so I gave these shoes black soles with white tops and drew on the laces with the black paint pen.   The shoes are big because basketball players have big feet.    So that’s my quick attempt at a basketball player.   I’m sure you can do better and improve on the design, which I would like to see if you respond and send a picture.
